Jacking points - bottle jack
Just a bought a bottle jack to replace the scissor and wondering what the best jacking points would be on the GC. The pinch weld points would need an adaptor for the button head, but there are mixed opinions about those, although could probably fab one up. I'm only interested in using the jack for changing a wheel on the road. Your thoughts guys??

Personally I find the scissor jack hard to beat for general carry to change a flat on the road. I’ve played around with different types of Jack’s and always come back to the scissor.
I made up a base to lift, level and better balance my jack on uneven surfaces for my lifted Jeep.
I have several cars.
When prices were a little lower, I picked up several Holden Commodore scissor jacks, one for each of my cars. I really like the quality of the VE and VF Jack’s (VE probably a little better).
I had the same issue with bottle jacks finding a good lift point and also on uneven surfaces the bottle jacks has a small ‘footprint’.
At home in the workshop, I use my bottle jacks a lot in conjunction with a trolley jack.

I agree with those pros and cons. I may use the bottle similarly in the garage alongside the trolley for all my cars, but bought mostly for the GC on the road, hoping it never gets used! I have a solid block to bolster the base. I do like hydraulic jacks though, in fact my Trailermate is best of the lot for lifting our semi o/r van. Just the GC lift point to overcome, but already have an idea for making an adaptor for the pinch.

I have had a scissor fail because it was past the half way mark and went sideways so have been shy of them ever since, I lift from the sort of chassis section where the hoist lift pads goes , a round plate with a rubber pad for my bottle jack to land and always have a nice block underneath any jack, with a lift I think it always important to check the lifting capabilities when on road..... at the rear I have had plans (for too long) to make a pad for the bottle on the rear lift points so it fits the top of the jack and has a good sized dimple to lock into the jack mount....
I once had an exhaust jack way back when they were new, it was brilliant but on these things you really have to get the position correct, big bluddy exhaust pipes are so helpfull... It is on my list though, imagine just lift under the suspension arms..

I'll keep working on it, might take a couple of goes but will end up fabbing something for the standard jacking points at both ends. Admittedly scissors make me a bit nervous, the base on my bottle isn't the problem, the block widens it further and gives a bit more height but the standard base is actually bigger than on the scissor.

The WK2 is a prick of a thing to lift with any jack IMO as it leaves no room to place a safety stand if rotating tyres or such.

Thats my biggest gripe for sure, its been on my mind to find another scissor jack chop the lift point off, stick it to a bit that will fit over the top of my bottle jack and lift at the pinch weld seam, (something I hate doing) then I stick my stands under the spot where the hoist pads lift from though they do need large pads to spread the load a bottle jack will distort the frame... I haven't come up with anything for the back just use the trolley jack to lift and I place a bit of square off cut as my safety bar....
Damn, thanks to this thread I just realised the Jeeps bottle jack is still in my shed, a few hundred Kms away and I only have the scissor with me but van has a nice bottle jack so I won't go to panic mode..... won't mention the big dummy spit while rotating tyres last week....
Note to Santa please bring me a hoist, I would be happy even with a 2 post job.
