Default DPF Burn...

This "new" Jeep is quite different to my last one in that it seems to be doing a DPF burn more frequently....at least for now given I have only done a bit over 700k's in it since picking it up.
It has done at least 5 burns in the 700kms.
(Maybe it is due to the thing being started and only driven short distances prior to me buying it as it was in a car yard and is clogged up?)

It also cranks up the cooling fan to flat out when it is doing a burn...coolant and oil temps don't move, my last one didn't do that. I only knew a burn was taking place due to the exhaust temp nudging 700 degrees C. No fan screaming...

This one even came up with the EVIC message on the weekend that an "Exhaust regeneration" is taking place and to keep driving...that was fine as I was on my way to the Sunshine Coast anyway doing 110kmh.

That is the first time it has given an EVIC message. Coming back home just now I heard the fan start to go flat out again and the exhaust temp rising to nudge 700c again, no EVIC message this time.

Does any one elses Diesel crank the cooling fan so it is going flat out when doing a DPF burn?
The moment the exhaust temp falls to around 400C the fan either slows or stops as I can no longer hear it.

The full speed fan is normal, well it did it in mine anyway. I assume to help keep engine temps down with such high EGT's while burning.

If car sits in dealer for a while, they just start them and let them idle to keep battery up. Worst thing can do for a DPF equipped car. take it for some good runs and it should clear up I would have thought.

Back in my car salesman days, yes we would go through the lot ensuring all the used cars at least started every day...usually giving a few revs then killing it. Didn't want to use too much fuel...lol.

Definitely no good for any engine, some salesman would rev the guts out of them not even giving the engine time to build some oil pressure....it would hardly put back what the starter motor dragged out starting it either...

My previous Jeep didn't ever do the fan thing...temps never seemed to be affected either by the high exhaust temp.
So yours does spin the electric fan hard when doing the burn...so it can't be abnormal then?

It is annoying to say the least, the fan just roars...maybe there is a way to kill it?

Run your VIN through this site:
https://www.mopar.com/jeep/en-us/my-...ls/search.html
& check to see if it's had a T01 Customer satisfaction notification applied to it (relates to noisy cooling fan operation after the S49 recall was applied)
https://www.chrysler.com/universal/w...ce/pdf/T01.pdf

Cheers

Thanks TR Laredo...I'd checked for recalls when I was buying it...It's had the S49 carried out according to the report, Z46 is "incomplete" which is the fuel pump recall.

It hasn't had the W58 which was the Magnetic Tape thing where they reflash for the possible Delamination of Crankshaft Position Sensor Tone Wheel...dunno whether I'll bother with that one just yet...

It looks like that T01 may not have been carried out...I'll be taking notes as this thing is under a Dealer warranty...though these updates are free anyways...

I had the noisy fan speed issue after the S49 recall was applied. The T01 was done after I raised the fan noise with the dealer. They were aware of the issue post S49 update but were waiting for customers to bring it to their attention

Cheers

Mine doesn't, just does a burn somewhere between every 120km or 470 kms depending what I' doing but I have no indication other than a slight rise in fuel use that its happening . Alpha data is my only notification..... non city of course.
