Default WK2 - SERV 4WD Light

Pretty much every time I go off road I have the SERV 4WD light come on, it does not effect the way the car drives, nor do I think it switches the car to 2WD but it does piss me off some.

To rectify it, I simply switch off the car then restart it and its ok, it will more than likely come back on during the trip. I have found driving the car in manual mode helps as it comes on less but it still happens.

I have had it come in on High range also.

One time on Fraser I was in high range and backed up into some softish sand to allow another car to go past and it came on, so its not like its getting punished or abused?

Is this something people ignore or is it unique to my car?

It's a faulty ABS module. Get it fixed while still under warranty.

Going back a few years there was a well documented problem with the sand mode function that would throw the SERV 4WD light. Many owners experienced loss of 4wd when on sand. There was ultimately a software upgrade via a TSB. Yours does not sound to be the same thing however as you are not loosing 4wd - but it might be associated?

My mate had the original issue and had the reflash done as one of first and it did it again but different went back and there was a new reflash that fixed issue. Light is first part of issue with soft ware. So I would get it looked at before any issues.
His appeared to be in 2wd in serious sand but not all time and all traction aids went strange.

Hi guys, I have had the same light come on twice 18 months apart over
the same crest on tarmac, I think the left front wheel got a bit light.
Went to the dealer the 1st time and they said they updated some thing
and it was not the sand issue. I don't go off road or beach driving so
don't know if 4wd is lost. The light went out the next day on start up.

Went to another dealer the 2nd time and no fault found was the answer .
Look forward to any further info.
regards Russell

Nah, but was told that's what the flash was fixing by the service guys who did it anyway back when it was a known problem, wanted mine fixed before we did Cape and Kimberley.

Had it a couple of times on sand in Qld so got the flash done in Cairns as part of service.
