Question Engine failure 2012 WK V6 3.0l turbo diesel

Has anyone else had the engine bearing for the crank shaft go on this engine?
Mine has just gone while being serviced at a Jeep dealership, while they were doing an exhaust regeneration on the laptop as it would not do it manually.
They are asking for $20K to replace with second hand motor.
I have found this article about it happening before, online.
https://gdlauto.com.au/jeep-grand-ch...ngine-failure/
Any information would be appreciated.
Pretty pissed off atm.
It has done 212,000kms, not much towing always serviced, mostly with Jeep.
Had the 200,000km service done 2 months before.

Thats not good, GDL do some good articles ............... Always serviced by Jeep isn't a big seller with me actually but I would be checking what was the actual oil they were using, good if they put it on the receipt as not much chance of them saying anything other than the correct oil now..........

Its a 2012 JGC, over 200K on the clock so spending anything over about $12K, $15K at a pinch, more would be over its real value sadly.

Forget the dealer I would get it evaluated by an engine shop, their report would be more to the point than any dealer and value for money but again $15K be my limit as tranny and driveline are getting on and if only jeep service scheduled then they haven't been looked at much....

It is a known weakness unfortunately and more in the Ram 1500 variety given extra weight and speeds in the US. The ECU reflash and oil change up to a heavier grade was the solution. Risk was when when loaded and using the taller gears a getting / maintaining suitable oil pressure into the journals etc. From all the social posts in Aust, it is present but infrequent. Feel you pain and there should be a few second hand ones coming online by now.

That pretty much echo's my thoughts.

The pressure a forced regen exerts is substantial, for example if they knew before performing it that the DPF was reading 100% full, imo they should have pulled that off for proper cleaning or replacement. I wouldn't let the dealer off too lightly, but it's probably a matter of their word vs. little if any proof.

surely you will pick an engine up from the wreckers for 3 0r 4k
and find some suitably qualified/competent mechanic to toss it in for you, should only take a couple of days max.

I would start at the Hervey Bay mob and work from there, having a fight with dealers or Jeep would take time, money and a bluddy big pain and the general consensus seems to be as I said, forget dealers find a good engine shop, there is a couple around Brissie as well that aren't rip off merchants, me if I was keeping it for awhile longer and the price was comfortable find a donor and see what a rebuild would be worth...
Whoever I got to do it, the old donk would be coming home with me for a strip down lookie.... along with an oil test if possible..... Im always suss of workshops and fluids , not just Jeep.....
