Default OM642 crankcase ventilation seal

Just replaced the seal that is inside the aluminium housing that pushes into the rear of the right hand head of the OM642 engine and is part of the crankcase ventilation system . This seal seals around the end of one of the cam shafts and becomes hard over the years .

Mercedes part number - A 014 9977146 . Bought it off Ebay for about $35.00 posted .

It appears to be a Mercedes proprietary seal .

Basically measures 22mmx35mmx6mm . Could possibly use a normal oil seal .

On re fitting the housing I used normal hex head bolts instead of the original torx head bolts . Made it a lot easier .

My catch can had been intercepting quite a bit of engine oil even though the engine doesn't show any signs of excessive blow by from the oil filler opening . Thinking the seal was too loose a fit around the cam shaft and the turbo is sucking out engine oil .

I am having an issue with the other end of the PCV hose where the hose joins a sensor, and a seal seals against the air filter to turbo air tube. Somehow that seal has been damaged. Lately my 3.0 CRD has been missing under load and I am hoping that a new fuel filter will fix that.

A replacement seal seems unavailable through both Jeep and MB parts people. I cannot find a supplier.
Can anyone help me locate one of these?
@stewatpark , which eBay site provided your end seal of that hose? Thanks.

The problem is resolved (I hope).
I searched eBay for "Mercedes Benz seal" and found this one. A pattern part no doubt but my options were China or Lithuania.

Give us an update when you get the bits, if you think they are good quality or not please. They look OK in the pics on ebay. I think these bits give all WH owners grief sooner or later.

No worries. I will do that.
The OEM part is very soft, almost silicone. The pattern part does look identical.

Some of the Chinesium is good these days. I've bought other items from there. anything from 2 weeks to 5 weeks delivery.
These adjustable shortie clutch and brake levers came from there. Perfect make and fit and still working perfectly.

I was amazed that no Jeep or MB dealer, or parts supplier, could supply the seal.

There was a recall on the elephant hose back in the day because these seals kept failing. This mod solves the issue for good.

There is links to aussie parts suppliers in the how-to section

Did the elephant hose mod on both our WH Diesels using the links and parts Clarky has posted up. Great mod and works well.
The sensor is just a heater..

Cheers,
