Angry CRD 40K service $$$$$

Just enquired about the price of the 40K service yesterday after they installed a new stereo under warranty, and was told it was going to be ..... wait for it....... take a seat.......drum roll.......... $1200.00 thankyou very much sucker !!!!.

Ahhhhhhh I dont think so BOYS !, I will be shopping around some of my local turbo diesel Boys.

Next week I will ring every dealer in Sydney and get quotes for 40 and 50K service as I checked the service manual and the 50K one has a few additional dots aswell. I will post results.

Before I even bought my jeep last June I asked for service quotations and 2 service depts gave me verbal quotes that 10k interval would be low $300 (correct) and 40K interval would be around the $800. Well guess what the M@#$! F@#$!'s lied. I only wish I had it in writing, Oh well thats life.

Better have another BEER or twenty before I tell the Missus !!

Steve

Dealers are always dear.... Personally I think the only thing a dealer service deparment is good for is warranty. Take it to a good mechanic or an ARB. I bet that same service is under $500 and I bet they do more than the dealer.

Just be carefull if you get it serviced by a non jeep preferred service provider as you may void your warranty and any claim later is no go. I my case with the WH the 50K service was in the vicinity of $1000 and as such they have fixed every bit of warranty work required.

I am not on any side here but think first before straying from the dealer while under warranty as the place you got it serviced by wont care a rats arse its broke later! Its wierd as you dont want them to service it due to the cost but I cant bet you will want them to do warranty work for you???

have had the last 2 services by the book by my local mechanic(detailed invoices) and they were half the cost so I wont have any issues with warranty !

I would go to him for the 40K but he is moving workshops and wont be set up for a month hence why I got a quote.

Cheers Steve

My 40K service was $850. CRD When I bought it the dealer gave me a list of all the prices for the services.

If you get it service by a 3rd party make sure they put the additives in the TF case and diffs.

A dealer or manufacturer can not void you warranty for not servicing the vehicle at a dealership. As long as you have the book filled out and the service is done by a qualified mechanic your warranty stands. The only difference is that what ever parts the mechanic uses are not covered by the manufactueres warranty - they are covered by the mechanic who did the service. Its the same situation with fitting accessories.

The myth that your warranty is void if you don't service at a dealership is quiet common out there and is spread by dealerships.... this is only a myth. If you ever get a dealer tell you this firstly read the fine print in you warranty book and if you are still confused call the department of fair trading.
