My brother and I went for a site recce today for AJOR to go and suss how bad the tracks are in Toolangi / King Lake area.
Due to the pipeline being constructed along the highway, the whole track following the highway itself is totally destroyed - paved, flattened and demolished which is shit.
They have strategically placed their pipe ontop of our tracks as an excuse to get rid of them by the looks of things because there is nothing at all left. Only a gaping highway sized cleared path covered in clay and mud..
Also due to the fires that have gone through the area, Toolangi State Forest is closed in fear of trees ready to collapse and road degredation in the area until they have been evaluated and cleared - hopefully not with a bulldozer this time
Because the tracks were closed along the highway which was our designated starting area where we were going to cruise up through the hills from we figured that the entire area would be on lockdown.
You can see by the pictures that bits and pieces have been totally destroyed and other parts have been left fairly untouched...
I really feel for the families and individuals that have lost so much in this disaster. Without being a tourist, seeing things first hand brings it all pretty close to heart, having lost a friend and almost another, also having fellow Army mates up there recovering bodies.
Along the way through the pass there were so many houses that the fires you could see made it all the way up to their house, that must've been a horrible last ditch effort to hold onto everything and I'm glad for some it paid off.
RIP
