Thought I'd do a build-up thread, I'm keeping it fairly low budget, and so far it's more of a re-build thread (mods: let me know if you want me to leave out the stock bits I fix), so it'll be a slow and uneventful thread, but here goes...

It's a 2001 WJ (WG?) Laredo 4.7 with Quadradrive, had 186k on the clock when I bought it in January, and only 188k as I write this, due to various issues, a shock to the system after having had Toyota's since getting my licence, but I'll stick it out, lol.

Future modifications...
I've read through the other build-ups here, and I'm thinking what I'll be doing is getting some uprated standard height coils, with a 50mm spacer lift and longer shocks to suit (to get the maximum legal height), I don't know about disconnects, I might fit them at a later date, depends on how much travel it has without them (I don't need a lot).
I'm looking to go for 245/75R16 in tyre size, I think that's about 31" which should do nicely for it's intended use. I won't be doing any serious rockcrawling in it, so maybe a set of nerf bars rather than sliders for the sake of easier roof access.

I'm considering making up some drawers for the back, but not sure what to do with the spare, maybe mount it like a ZJ? or figure out a cheap way to stick it on the bumper...

In the performance department, it seems to have enough go, but I'm considering an Airaid Jr kit, TBS and snorkel on the intake side, and a cat-back 3" on the way out, which is much the same as I had on my Prado and that worked well.

I don't need lockers, the quadradrive is working well enough, but I might try and fit an air compressor in there somewhere, maybe in the spare wheel well if I can find a place to relocate that.

First job off the list was the handbrake cable...

A PITA to replace, the centre console is way more complicated to remove than it needed to be, my carpet seemed to be glued down exceptionally well along the length of the cable, and the clockspring adjustment mechanism at the base of the lever seemed to take an instant dislike to me...

But it's done, and even though I'm braced for a snapping sound every time I apply it, I now have a handbrake

I think it'll be mainly touring, although I'm not opposed to going more hardcore once I get more used to the vehicle.

Next up was the drivers door window regulator, the rear right window is also dead, but it can wait till I'm ready to have the windows tinted.

I got the regulator from Rockauto, and it was a cinch to fit, which was a pleasant surprise after the handbrake...

And to bring this thread up to date, the Jeep is currently getting it's radiator and valve cover gaskets replaced, I had planned to do this myself, but it seems my range of tools needs some expansion to cope with the Jeep thing, so I gave up and passed it off to a mechanic, so no pictures for this part...

The gaskets came from Rockauto, while the radiator was an e-bay job from a place in Sydney ($190 delivered, can't complain about that)

What all of that means is now I can start spending my money on go-fast bits rather than bits to make it go in the first place
