Default The waiting is killing me

G'day all. I thought I'd make my introductions. After about two years of agonising I've finally ordered a new JK Unlimited CRD auto with Renegade Pack, Off Road Group, 2" Mopar lift, Action Pack (swapped the standard front bar for a winch bar) and Tow Pack. Because of the Off Road Group it's a special order and I probably won't see it till late August / early September.

I've been four wheel driving for over 30 years and this is not my first Jeep. My first car was an MB:

It is probably the biggest regret of my life that I ever sold this car. I've also had a G60 Patrol, 40 Series Troopcarrier and I'm now driving a GQ Patrol wagon.

Once I get the JK I'll be taking my 285/75 R16 Mudstars off the Pootrol and fitting them to the Jeep. I've got a winch sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. These will be followed by an AEV snorkel ... let the modding begin!

Welcome to the forum. You shouldn't have sold the MB!

Hey Grahame yeah I agree that the 16's won't fit a new JK. The 07's came with 16's but 08 onwards came with 17's, coz I'm looking at trading in my 07 and upgrading and was going to put my 305/70/16's on but was told that they won't fit, damn it so looks like i'm trading them in aswell (only about $5000 with tyres and rims) haha.

Bugger. I've been reading up about offsets and backspacing but this is the first I've seen about 16s not fitting on the later models. Oh well, I guess I'll have to resort to Plan B ... whatever that is?

Welcome Grahame! I bought a JK SWB Petrol over a month ago, love it. Being in Melbourne you should come to the Jeep Jamboree on 30 September if you get your car in time!

You will find the brake callipers and alike were increased in size for MY08 onwards...

The stud pattern on GQ is also different...

Check some of the US forums because some of those guys are using 16's even 15’s but you may need to push your back space to as little as 3.75" or 4". These guys are generally running bead locks, 37’s and 40’s as a min... in to heavy rock crawling...

This then causes other issues though and may not be legal where you are...

Extended wheel arches will also be required if you go down this path...

To cut a long story short... it’s probably cheaper to just go 17's....
