Default WH Tyre sizes after 30-40mm lift

We have ended with a 30-40mm lift unintentionally after installing new springs shocks and struts.

Now its getting time for new tyres so without changing rims what options to we have?
Our use is towing a caravan and around town driving so comfort and quietness is important:
We think HT would be the best choice to achieve that?

My thinking at present after searching threads here is to increase the
tyre size to 255/65/17, logic being a slightly bigger footprint on the road = more stability when towing a 2800kg caravan?
Can the driver notice and problems with wider tyres?
Is there any known problems with this tyre?

the 265 wide tyres will I get scraping somewhere?

Has anyone any idea what the freight is for tyres from the USA like the tirerack?
Has anyone tried those $135.00 cheapies from places like taxityres?

Also if I only changed two for a while with 255 on the back and 245 on the front ...2 has good tread left...
Am I going to cause the Jeeps computer to fault out big time?

I have the silent armour wranglers off the JK Wrangler size 245/75/17 on standard rims.
They rub slightly on full lock on the inner guard and hum at HWY speeds.

I have been running Cooper AT/R passenger construction not LT on the wife's Suzuki for 40000 km and IMO will get another 40 out of them. They are a little noisier then the factory tyres but not intrusive.
The equivalent to the AT/R now are the AT/3 which are available in P construction in 255/65/70

An alternative idea

I have used the cheaper tyres on my cars before and must say they weren't that bad but when you have $70k of vehicle & caravan on the road I personally wouldn't want to take the risk.

Default WH Tyre sizes after 30-40mm lift

If you are not upsizing for clearance don't bother. Your economy will suffer..

Consider Commander rims and tyres?
http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...d.php?t=124539
It will change your wheel track by 12mm (6mm each side) and when these tyres wear out the 255/65 or even 265/65 will fit without an issue.
speedo will be pretty spot on as well (70 series tyres in the 265 the speedo is out approx 3 or 4 km).

Only if they're the same overall diameter, as it's an AWD vehicle when in high. If you have QDII, the clutch packs in the transfer case might cause the QDII system to lock up by sensing 'slippage' between the front and the rear. This would eventually cause too much stress on the transfer case, the clutch packs will probably wear out which will result in binding and eventually in complete destruction of the transfer case.

Running a set of old and new tyres is OK but not recommended. I've run it like that in the past and I'm still running around like that and it's been a couple of years, no issues.

If running AT's, it won't make much difference, as long as one can properly compare the 'real' km against the litres and that's by calibrating the stock tyres properly first, checking the economy, then calibrating the larger tyres and checking the economy.

I've run 275/65/17's before and economy was pretty much the same. The only difference was, slightly better economy with the originals around town, due to lower speeds, but slightly better economy with 275's when traveling at 100 and 110 speeds (lower RPM's). I've compared this in many occasions. I'm not sure if diesels and HEMI's are different in that regard. Diesels would have better low down pulling power but HEMI's would get better RPM's at higher speeds, so I'm guessing that the around town and highway figures would be different.

Now, when I run my MT's (265/70/17), they suck. They are much heavier too. My economy with them decreased 2-3 litres per 100 km on long distance trips and even more around town.
