Apparently been the newbie I have to write a report. So here is my lame attempt.
Thanks to all the guys there, what an Awesome day. I did not expect the truck to handle so well, made an ordinary driver look kind of all right.
The day started with me jumping out of my jeep to the laughs of all the boys, you do have boots Stan ? no just thongs and what bill called my Kung Foo shoes. Yes next time I will come prepared with boots and kit. Then down to prepping the truck for the tracks. While all the boys got down to doing what they do I stood there like a fish out of water. Not knowing what to do. To their credit call the boys helped me and made me feel comfortable ( still not sure what the deal was hating on my shoes : ) … )
I was kind of glad the tracks at Gembrook were closed cause the boys did make it sound like I’ll be needing winching at every corner. In Bills words I “was about to be Baptised in fire”. This was my first trip in the jeep and the first time out 4wding . so to go out on these tracks with the big boys and my stock jeep was a challenge. I was a bit nerve racking keeping up the pace,
Coming from a track car background this was a different ball game altogether. What you do on a bicherman goes out the window and I learnt that on the first corner in a track in Neerim going straight into the bank and the truck was lying on the driver side door against a bank. From there things got better and the day kicked on. Highlight for me was going off what was a track to another , to me it looked like we were just going into the bush literally. Driving up a hill with rocks , water , hitting trees on every corner was the biggest buzz.
The truck has lost its virginity in a big way. All scratched up. Things that don’t work currently are.. ABS, traction control , EDS BSS whatever that is. My steering wheel is pointing about 30 degrees to the left. $48 worth of gold coins at the local carwash and the jeep still isn’t clean. There is mud in places that makes no sense.
But again thanks to all the guys, you guys made the day for me , it was steepest learning curb I have ever had. I reckon I learnt more there than I would have at any training course. Even the Mrs came out of there with a big smile on her face and wanting to go back, that in its self was a big achievement,
As a result of the day to all the newbies looking to head out. contact Bill for your starter recovery packs. I know I’m investing in all the gear before the next trip.
DBOR TOURER KIT – again the kit performed better than I thought it would. I didn’t bottom out once. And the flex was awesome. For the kind of trip we did the kit handled it so well. Nothing broken and the drive home was as smooth as when we got there.
