Help finding leak
Hi guys,
Need some help.
The old xj has a really bad oil leak, most of the oil looks like it comes from the rear main, but there is oil on the firewall and all over the electrical connectors near the back left of the rocker cover.
Any ideas will be great
Cheers
Darryl

The cast ally rocker covers notorious for leaks.
The o rings in the oil filter is another common one.
Seapage between the block and head on the drivers side can also happen.
Suggest you give it a really good clean and see if you can tell where the oil is coming from.
Good luck with it.

Rainman is onto it. Check those, but start with a really good clean down so that you spot the leak/s at the source. Will save you time, money, and frustration.

Shall I chime in saying Rainman is on the right track hehe?
Dont indulge in that fine little job of attacking the rear main seal just yet. It often gets the blame for leakage in the area, but realise that is about the lowest point of your engine, since its tilted somewhat backwards. Oil from leaks anywhere else therefore can end up there, making you think its the rear main seal.
Start with simple stuff first, check tightness rocker covers bolts, clean out the engine bay and start looking for leaks then. Its the way to start looking for any leaks. Old vs new crud/oil is sometimes hard to distinguish. As in my case, a pinpoint leak in power steering hose sprayed the whole area, making it look like EVERYTHING was leaking.
