If your definition holds true, then AR15 definitely don't fit the criteria. They aren't selectable and are semi auto only.

Sorry, you're wrong mate, it's an AK-47.

Well the maths is only rough. While both your rifles would carry astounding kinetic energy with comparison to the bow the penetration rates would vary. This is a function of design. Because hunting arrows have a cutting edge they penetrate at a greater rate causing greater trauma. If you fired a round at a sand bag it would put a little hole in and penetrate a few mm its kinetic energy dissipated by the sand. The arrow would punch right through because of the cutting head.
That’s the only reason you can take a deer down with a bow. The downside is because the bow has such low kinetic energy even with a high draw weight bow you need to get bloody close. Bows are that slow I have had one or two deer jump the string. That’s were the deer hears the thrum of the string and moves making the arrow miss.

I'm assuming you demostrated the mV^2 equation and how velocity is much more important than mass.
hower all this said I'd rather be hit with a .22 round than a 28 inch arrow!

At close range I couldnt agree more as I said in the previous post arrows penetrate much better and do lots of damage but only at close range.

Actually now I think on it I'm not so sure. While the arrow does do a lot of tissue damage due to its size and penetration a bullet does its damage via hydrostatic shock as a function of higher kinetic energy. So I guess this could damage organs and so on that are no necessarily in the direct path of the bullet. Plus arrows stop bloody quick when they hit bone. I smell a great myth buster’s episode here. If only I had the time and cash to experiment myself

Haha I said over a .22 not a .308
but that said, with a target tip, it'd be a very clean puncture, with a broadhead.... Lots of mess
