First Jeep
Hello All.
I put a deposit on 2007 GC WH 3.0 Diesel Ltd with 180K+ km over the phone last week. It's subject to inspection and test drive, so I will get the deposit back if I don't like the car.
I had diesel VW Golf mkV for 7 years before without DPF but EGR issues emptied my pocket once and then I had to clean damn thing every year. German design meant to be standing almost upside down to unscrew EGR parts.
I would be less worried if this Jeep wasn't diesel but I need a car urgently next week and nothing (4x4 or RWD in SUV shape) was available within my very limited budget in Adelaide.
The car has service book in order. I will inspect it early next week and I think I will need to have a look under engine cover for any oil leaks around famous orange seals apart from general check-up.
I saw this car on the image - it has a red button on the left side of steering wheel like something add-on, no idea why and what it is.
I decoded VIN and didn't see DPF. Am I safe or it was encrypted?
Is this too risky proposition for daily car in Adelaide?
Thanks!

Red button trailer brake controller may be a good thing in relation to your DPF concerns. DPF needs to get red hot to burn off particulates and in my experience towing combined with highway driving equals a healthy DPF.
I have first hand experience.
My mate and I had identical 3.0l TDI’s purchased same date.
His was used by wife around town only. Mine was predominately highway driving.
At 5 years old his had 100,000km, mine had nearly 200,000km.
His DPF was stuffed. We had same mechanic, I asked him to check mine at same time, he said mine looked like new.
Only difference was city driving Vs highway.

Might be worth grabbing a bluetooth OBD scanner and the JScan app and scanning the jeep for codes after you have test-driven. I say after, because the dealer may clear codes before you arrive so it looks clean - if I was a shady dealer, that's what I'd do

Thanks All.
It's not a Jeep dealer he won't have a clue about codes.
This is VIN decrypted, I can't see DPF !

Generally, Euro Stage 4 Emissions vehicles (as you have above) didn’t have DPF (some exceptions). Stage 5 all do.

No dpf on the WH, neither my 06 or 09 have one.
The only thing I would check is if Low range works,
start the engine, put transmission in neutral with handbrake off and pull up chrome leaver.
1 of 3 things will happen
1 it will go into 4wd
2 dash will say check shift procedure
3 dash will say service 4wd system
1 and 2 are normal.
3 is it needs the N23 recall fixed properly and only jeep can do that. Because only Jeep can do it I would still buy it but I would try get the price lowered or get them to pay for Jeep to fix it. If you don't need low range then it won't matter and will still be fine for a daily driver.
And check the aircon works, set the fan on auto low or high, both temp dials to 20 and vent position knob to auto.
you should notice it starting to cool within a couple of minutes.
If it doesn't cool its probably the condenser and it will be about $900 to repair.
Other then that you will find its a great daily driver.
