OM642 Coolant Change.
Hi Gents.
Planning a coolant change on the Jeep.
If i just drain the system by removing the coolant tank cap, and then opening the radiator drain tap, how much coolant will be left in the system?
Any special way to refill to avoid air locks?
Incidently, the Jeep has the blue Mercedes coolant in it, so i will be using the G48 stuff.
Thanks.

I don't believe the om642 has an issue with airlocks.
I just drained, flushed and refilled. No problem.

I drained at the tap on the bottom of the radiator.
Took the tank off and cleaned it with rice and bleach.
Replaced top and bottom hose.
Refilled with new coolant and squeezed the top radiator hose as I went and that seemed to help massage out any air..
Cheers,

Thanks gents, i appreciate the help.
Last coolant change was performed by mercedes specialist. They made a complete hash of it. They returned Jeep with empty coolant tank and it had airlock. Complete idiots.
My coolant tank is very dirty too. Did the rice not go soft whilst you were cleaning?
Is it a good idea to change the hoses at same time?

No, rice doesnt go soft.
Bleach and rice slowly gets rid of all that crap in the tank that must be from rubber hoses, engine block etc..
Got hoses from Rockauto because they were cheap and my old ones were looking a little soft but you don't have to change them if you think yours are OK.
I refilled the coolant via the top hose into the radiator and engine. Then replaced hose and filled up remainder into coolant tank while squeezing top hose.
Cheers

I'd replace the hoses while you're at it and keep your old ones as spares
