The trip to Bathurst without the van in tow saw coolant around 99c - 101c and oil at 105c - 107c at 105kmh, ambient between 34c & 38c. Any hills saw both temps head north...
So...hanging the van on the back would easily add 10 degrees C to those temps...probably wouldn't be able to hold 105 kmh having to drop back to 90 kmh to bring temps down...something ain't right imo!
I've reluctantly booked in to a Jeep Dealer, in 3 weeks time being the soonest I can get in, to have the W58 recall carried out, and I am going to try to get the screaming cooling fan problem fixed when doing a DPF burn...and see if it is possible to have the cooling fan kick in at around 105c - 110c in day to day...
At the least the service guy I have dealt with before and he actually drives a WK2...and drags a camper trailer...

Mate....GDL had a vid on the screaming fans thing....seems there are 2x wires attached to a harness that are supposed to run through a slot in the rear of HPFP Cover on the front of the engine...if those 2x wires arent routed correctly it can lead to the wires being 'damaged' sending mixed signals to a sensor creating the fans doing three million rpm.....GDL Auto Fan Noise WK2...sumthin like that....was the U TUBE Vid....have been on that Site lookin for answers to other threads....CHEERS Mate....I hope thats the issue cos a li'l solder n heat shrink n jobs sweet....nice...fingers crossed

Hmmm, thanks FARWEST...when I spoke to the bird at the Dealership today booking the Jeep in and mentioned the screaming fan thing...she had no idea...typical Dealership response to any issue really. I'll have a look for the vid...cheers

It really sounds like the fix for the fan hasn't been done on this vehicle which I believe is a PCU problem or something, I can't find the TSB describing it all.......... either that or a crappy radiator...

Been doing some more research on this cooling issue as I had recalled reading about a side issue after the S49 recall...mine has had the S49 Shifter recall done according to the Mopar site.
But, it seems the S49 recall in many cases leads to the cooling fan going off when not needed, and not coming on when needed.
This update correction to the software is noted as: "Customer Satisfaction Notification T01 - Reprogram Powertrain Control Module"
"The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may have received PCM software containing calibration errors when recall S49 was performed. PCM software containing calibration errors may result in the radiator cooling fan producing excessive fan noise during operation."
The error within the S49 update from what I have read on some blogs also had appeared to have changed the temperature the cooling fan will come on...
I am hoping this is what is wrong with this Jeep, and the Dealer can fix it and not wreck it totally!
