Why are you replacing the entire diff due to a broken spider gear? Do you have an lsd or open rear diff? If its open, buy an aussie locker for $300 and put that in, it replaces all the spider gears. If you have an lsd, you will have to find an open carrier, and then you will need your gears reset (I beleive) if you put that in. A Super 35 will cost shitloads with the US dollar the way it is. The 30 spline Detroit on its own is about US$600.
Are you saying you can get a Chrysler 8.25 with a locker for $1300? What kind of locker? The Chrysler is a better diff than the 35, even if it is only the 27 spline version.

I don't want to replace the entire diff. The mechanic started talking that way, so I'm not sure if it's just the spider gear that's fried. The D35 would be LSD. The Super35 is looking about $2k supplied. (with the detroit) + fitting (who knows how much that will be).
If I go just the 8.25 with a detroit, It'll be about $3300 I'd guess.
The 8.25 doesn't have a locker. They mistook what I was saying about the super35 kit being stronger as the 8.25" for some reason.
If I just wack a detroit in it'll be about $2k fitted.
Argh!

Just had a look here:

I beleive the 4WD Systems LOKKA is what the Aussie Locker is marketed as over here (Aussie Locker isn't sold in Australia). Seems they sell for about $600-700 locally. They sell them for US$240 in the states so there should be a cheaper option somewhere.

What I'm asking is, does the diff you currently have (the busted one) have an lsd. If you does then you won't be able to fit a 'lunchbox' locker. Which is a shame cause its a cheap option.

On a side note, I will have a D35 available in a month or so. I would want about $350 for it, being a Jeep part.

There is a LSD version of the Powertrax lunchbox that would fit. I wouldn't do it on stock shafts tho.
