Merc know all about it,my son knows a bloke he's been weelin with who works in service at a Merc commercial dealership and he said they do up to 1 swirl motor a week.
Mind you Merc is the only place you can get the black replacement seal Jeep do not hold it as a spare part but try and get one without a Merc part number thats why most Jeep dealers reseal the old one.
So Merc are no better.

No not as yet the head machanic at my dealership is trying to get one for me so we can replace it at the 80,000K service.
If we can't get one he's going to check and reseal the old one.
If we can get one and a part number you guys will be the first to know.

Thats odd, I was led to believe that there where some significant differences between Merc and Jeep. Merc used a flanged aluminium manifold where Jeep use plastic with an O-ring. As such the turbo is mounted differently to Jeeps/Chrysler's.
I own a Merc and have asked my service manager about the problem and he hadn't heard on this issue but know's about Chrysler's.
This engine is in C,E,S,M, vans etc and world wide I haven't read of this problem on Merc forums.

the reason is the merc does not refer to a "swirl motor", the merc term is "Intake Port Shut off Motor", very common to fail on merc 3.0l diesels too.

I have just Googled "Intake port shut off motor Mercedes 3.0 ltr CRD failour"
The only thing that came up were posts from this and the 300C forums.
My question is. If it is such a common a fault, why are there no posts from around the world apart from these two sites. This is their most common engine and no one else has put anything online. Why would that be the case?
