what are you using in the pivot, bearings or bushings ? what type ?

The pivot is made with a steel sleeve with a 9/16 hole through it which fits perfectly with a geniune front lower control arm bolt which is used to hold it in place, the sleeve is then bushed with ralloy which I machined into a top hat shape so it has ralloy above and under the the steel sleeve.
Ralloy is an industrial plastic which has self lubricating properties and is extremely strong.
I will machine up another set of bushes as a spare but these will last for years.....

JJ, I wasn't happy with my swing away either when it opend that way which is why I changed it over

Mine will stay on the drivers side just ned to fine tune it some, I definitely don't want it on the passenger side as it seems a favourite pass time for a lot of idiots is to park very close to the back which would make accessing the rear a right royal pain in the a$%e to near impossible from the footpath.....

I am in the early stages of making one, design only at the moment. i hadnt thought about kerb side access. thanks for the great write up!

I got some painting done today, a couple of coats of undercoat and some satin black from a rattle can, not really worth starting the compressor for such fiddly jobs....
You can see in the first two pics the sandwich plates that go behind the centre mount.
The 3rd pic shows the drivers side mount with the step necessary to keep it against the body....
