I will reiterate what others have said about letting these engines bed in. I have the diesel which probably doesn't help you much, but I am absolutely amazed at how much the engine characteristics have changed as it has loosened up. I have done about 11k now and its literally chalk and cheese compared to when I first got it. I must say I find it to be pretty useless under 1500rpm but I'd say the stupid 3.21 diff ratios aren't helping there. But the way its going it will be an absolute pearler after I rack up 50k+ kms. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the same thing applies to the petrol.

My old 89 4.2 petrol Patrol just idled up my gentle front driveway slope, but I find the new Jeep has to be given some revs to avoid stalling resulting in a faster garage entry, or I have to slip the clutch to prevent it stalling, and even around town after a week I'm still stalling it embarassingly like a Learner driver.
Then sometimes it seems when it stalls it refuses to crank, unless I put the handbrake on.
The Jeep I test drove seemed to have similar problems if not worse because it had the taller diffs.
I'm a bit concerned about this engines offroad performance now at low rpm and especially as I plan to go bigger on tyres.

maybe some driver training would help you .

Manual rubi I test drove a couple of months ago was like this.
Complete rubbish!
Stalled it at the lights but it kept sort of running on. Like 300rpm sort of thing. Had to turn it off and then try and start it again. Was pretty funny because the bastard thing wouldn't start.
Then went and test drove an auto and found it MUCH better. haha. Completely different feeling vehicle.
PS: i'll be following your posts closely. I too have a GQ patrol, 4.2 diesel though. Probably going back to 1 car in future with a JK rubi at the top of the list.

Hey there is no need for that sort of talk young fella.
Maybe try low range to get up the driveway easier.

I will ring the dealer on Monday and see if they can check it out and reflash the chip if necessary, it's only got 500km on it so far. There's got to be more bottom end horses somewhere, my brothers V6 Commodore can reverse ok into my garage. It seemed to stall more often today about 4 or 5 times at lights, and also refused to crank afterwards for a few seconds. I did reverse it into my garage easier the day I picked it up, something may be screwy.
And my Patrol used to redline at 6000rpm actually with no problems, due to a Fireball ignition system and disabling the rev limiter

Mate, get this checked, urgently,
The JK has an anti-stall when your in lowrange that should act like a hand throttle...
if its stalling at low range, could be a problem with your clutch.
I just got the bad news that my clutch is fried, almost down to the riverts at 18,000km
Best thing is it ISN'T covered under warrenty!
