Thanks for the support guys. It's almost a full grid for the Outlaws Comp and we've added a Rock Crawling Event as well. It should be a great comp.
This won't be a speed based event as Mr Extreme Jeep asked. Rock Racing is something I'm very keen to push in Australia as I believe it ties in the best features of Rock Crawling, Tuff Truck and Winch Challenge events into one sport. The problem is you can't really convert any of them to a Rock Racer effectively so unless there are 3 or 4 events a year guys won't spend $50K+ building one. It's a bit of a horse and cart thing.
Danny from Solid Axle and I have been working on a prototype Rock Racer: LS2, D60's, Atlas II, 40” stickies ... that guys can purchase from us. I'll provide work for the drivers/owners at Ragged Edge so they can make a good earn from their 4x4; I think it's a big ask to spend $55k on a race car but I think it's viable to spend $88,000 on a business that turns over $40k+pa working a few weekends and happens to be based on a race car (and you can explain that to the missus too). You then have a saleable appreciating asset because you can sell the income not just a depreciating 4x4.
By putting the income potential first we get a grid of race cars. I'm doing the same thing with the Ragged Edge Crawlers at the moment: selling them to individuals so they can make a very good income and I'll head to Qld to set up the same with Rock Crawlers and Rock Racers.
There is an old saying in business that says: “What wins on Sunday sells on Monday” it’s why car manufactures spend big $$$ on motor sport. Comps become the marketing tool to let the public know that they can drive at Ragged Edge which pays the guys who own the 4x4’s to race. (Hope that one made sense). As the sport gets bigger: more exposure; Sponsorship becomes an additional income stream for 4x4 racers too. Drive days are a big part of the ‘sponsorship’ package for most motor sports like V8 Supercars and that’s what Ragged Edge is geared up to do.
The end result is we get a National series with 4x4s that 'work' at Ragged Edge locations around Aus and race so the 'sport' goes semi professional. Of course my trucks will be identical so there's no R&D issues but that's not to say an open class like in the US can't grow from that: they'll be some comps at that stage so the guys will spend the $$$ and the Ragged Edge trucks will become a class. I’m not about ‘owning’ the sport I just want to help it grow.
Exciting times ahead.
