Verbal discussions between diesel owners who've had the problem and FCA directly indicate its pretty likely a recall is coming for the diesels.

This is all becoming confusing the first recall T36 (7/11/17) seems to relate to all three alternator types 160A, 180A and 220A from 2011-2014.

The second recall T75 (December 2017) relates only to the petrol 3.6 160A alternator.

This recall would not even apply to Australia if we only have the 220A alternator. I think we maybe mixing this recall up in that it only applies to the petrol engine. T36 looks like it could be for either diesel or petrol depending on the VIN number ??

T36 is petrol VIN's only, FCA seem to be conceding that it's only a matter of time before a diesel recall happens. Personally I doubt they will do it until they've manufactured enough new alternators to shunt around the world.

In the US they only introduced the diesel in 2014, so they probably aren't seeing the rate of failures we have been seeing here, or that they have been seeing on petrol models from 2011-2013.
To understand the process here a bit better they advise they know of the issue and say they are working on a fix, that is recall T36. T75 is announcing they have a fix for the 160AMP alternators for US owners, come in and get the replacement part.
They will put out another recall when the 180A and 220A parts are ready to fit. We will then have a recall announced here when the parts are available in Oz.
It was a similar process for the transmission Auto Park recall on the 8 speed.

My 2011 Crd packed it in on Sunday. Dealer told me today to keep receipts as there is a 99% chance of a diesel recall. Lucky I bought second hand warranty with mine and that will cover it. Then when the recall happens I get another one. Fingers crossed back on the road tomorrow or the next day. No idea what there fitting.

I'm starting to think I may be better off with some preventative maintenance. My MY12 CRD has 113K on it and hasn't shown any issues yet. I've been following this for some time so I recently bought a new alternator from the US and have it sitting in my garage "just in case", however in a couple of weeks I'm heading up to QLD to pick up a boat and driving back over 4 days with no time for breakdowns. I may just have this new alternator fitted now and then have the OEM one repaired at some stage,
