That's actually a really good idea! The roof and bonnet are the worst parts, with thw roof the only section that has any rust. I could grab a kit and a compressor and focus on getting those two sorted, see how far the remainder of the kit would go and work it out from there. Good thinking!
Really appreciate the help guys. Apologies for clogging up the picture thread with paint talk, just get a bit excited about the old XJ sometimes!

Ahh yes, definitely lift kit territory with those tyre sizes! I did a little looking around and I think I'll go 235/75/15 on the Sunraysias when I do get them, found some pics and looks great, no rubbing on stock from what I'm reading... Works for me. I'm torturing myself though, had a quick look on Gumtree and instantly found someone selling a set of 4 down near Sydney, perfect black sunnies with that size tyre in good condition for $480. Just wish it was in the budget right now!! Grr.
How long ago did you do the bunnings special on your paint? Holding up alright in the sun? I'm struggling with the interior of all things, for some reason moisture keeps getting in between the rear carpet and the bodywork, and hints of rust are starting to show there now (I stripped it all out, wirewheeled every last bit of it, hit it with rust converter, two coats of rust inhibiting primer, then 2 coats of rustoleum black, I went all out on it). I DEFINITELY want to hit the interior floor panels with bed liner once I patch the fred flintstone hole action I have going on.
I could have sword I posted these pics previously, but I can't seem to find where I did. Anyway, some old pics of the Heep from back in the day and years past, camping up at Double Island point back when you'd be lucky to see 2 other cars, and one of me with the horse and the jeep, all around 1996 they were (I'm in the purple shirt on the shipwreck pics) taking my goat to hospital etc;
