That's excellent advice, I'll try to find a good body shop for the second opinion. I'm preparing myself for the worst, but still holding out a little bit of hope.

Anything is rebuildable ! Just the cost might sway the decision. However as many have found parting out might not be an option if high ks on the motor etc.Asothers have said get a couple of body shop quotes ,if if repairs were up around $3000 I would get it done ,if the vehicle is in good condition.! Think vehicles with full chassis any better?
Ask the Triton,Ranger,BT50 ,Toyota owners who are still bending chassis !

You really need it to be looked at by someone who is a specialist at bent car bodies, Jeep means nothing, so a Smash repairer should be who need to see to get a proper hands on opinion, the body isn't bent/twisted so if they can cut and shut suspension towers this would be a doddle, anyway a hands on inspection is way better than a photo diagnosis........
Use a Smash Repair Shop not a Mechanical Workshop, you need someone who knows broken vehicle bodies, Jeeps are not the only vehicle with unibodies, Merc, BMWs so they aren't a mystery to body shops.
It was a spanner shop that declared my first one a wreck and irrepairable, the smash repair shop said easy peasy ... should have gone back later and showed them...
Anyway best of luck with it all, if you sell it as a wreck and its not a declared write off, someone will just rebuild it and make a monza of cash.

Drovers post is the best option - lots of wrecked WK2s around for a proper smash repairers to cut the mounting points out of & re-attach to your vehicle. I suspect an insurance company would take the easiest option available to them ie: send us some photo’s of the damage so we can make our assessment (no assessor actually comes to your house for a look) then later on a phone call - sorry we don’t cover that type of damage etc

Emailed a few smash repairs in the area this morning, got one reply back saying unrepairable. The emotional roller coaster continues!

So far I've got Richard at Jeeps'R'Us and one of the bigger smash repairers in town telling me it can't be fixed. None of the others got back to me.
My insurance doesn't want to know about it, and the finance company told me they won't lift the lien until it's paid in full, regardless of whether it's driveable. Couldn't get a straight answer out of them regarding rego and insurance since it's not going to pass next roadworthy (although you never know, it passed one a couple of months ago).
My employer has brought up giving me an interest free salary advance so that I can pay it off. Will have to have a discussion about that. If it works out at least I might be able to sell it and get something back out of it, whole car's only done 160k.
But basically that's all there is to it. It's gone as far as I'm prepared to take it. I'll either get the loan from my boss and put it in the classifieds here in the near future, or I won't and it'll sit on the road out the front of my house until it runs out of rego and I move it into the driveway until it's paid off and then I'll post it in the classifieds here.
4th and last Jeep. I still say the other 3 I've owned served me well, and this one was bloody nice to drive, but I'm done. Time to go buy an AU falcon.
