Thought I had a transmission problem and more dollar bills began to float before my eyes as I weighed up my options. Nothing happened when I popped it into drive and the transfer case wouldn't move either. I went down to the local automatic reconditioners and he immediately said it was the transfer case. OK, so we jumped under the car for a more detailed look and it turned out to be the transfer case lever had popped out of its locating hole and the case was in neutral. After a bit of work with a block and tackle we fixed it and we went for a very satisfying drive up the road.
One thing I am pleased about is the huge 7 bladed central mounted belt driven cooling fan. I cant see me having any overheating problems. Can't say the same about the 42re auto. Heat is the killer for them and an external cooler is a must.

Hi Grippy,
It's not exactly together just yet, as none of the front cowl is on or the bull bar. The drive was just up and down my street and we didn't get out of second gear. It's been too cold to get a good go at it.
The engine sounds real sweet, no ticks, rumbles or knocks (touch wood). I had a lot of help from 2 Utube videos and the online workshop manual plus my 40 yr old son supplied the muscle and encouragement. It will be a couple more weeks before rego, and pics.
Cheers
Bill

Now the transfer case has sprung a leak! A drip about every couple of minutes, just enough to kybosh the RWC. I'm going to try a patch of silicone before I get serious.

The joint between the tranny and the transfer case. It's on the bottom about 20mm long.

I have a NV 249 Quadra-trac transfer case and I'm looking for some oil at a reasonable price and quantity.(oxymoron?) I can get 20 litres of Mobil 424 for $192 at Supercheap or 3 little bottles of Mopar t/c fluid at about the same price. I only need 2 litres.
What do you guys use ?
