looking good steve. One thing I always thought it better to have the same track width as the tow vehicle, particularly important if you ever tow on sand/loose dirt. my2cents

Yep, it is better to have the same track but that drastically affects the interior width and for my use the wider track wont be too much of a problem.
Cheers

Different track in sand really causes a drag literally!! Had it once like that and made the trailer dance from one rut to the other all the time as well when the sand was deep with plenty of ruts. Mud is the same deal.

That looks really interesting, I like the windowed version myself.

Why not raise the bed level, get the wheels in under the body a little to match the XJ's track and use the area in front of the wheel wells/under the bed level for storage? Drawers that can be accessed from outside? I know it will add to weight but also adds extra function and practicality.
Hope that makes some sense

It does make sense - BUT - with this type of camper it raises the COG to a level where it's a problem. The basic design is one where you have the end of the bed under the counter of the kitchen, where your feet go.
If you raise the bed to tuck the wheels underneath then the wheels better be 14" jobbies to keep the COG low, difficult on a 4WD. Keeping this in mind, if the wheels/tyres become 31" then they need to run outside of the main cabin under the mudguards as per the drawings.
Follow?????
This means that the track for a 4WD may have to differ somewhat to a "normal" car towing the Teardrop/Frodtoad camper.
back to you

Not what I meant.
The floor as it is now would stay at the same level, the only thing that is raised is the bed level ie create second floor.
The space between the two is what I meant as storage area. This means that most things that are regularly kept in the camper would be ad the lowest possible point for COG and only the bedding would be high up.
