Adding to the Jeep family!!
Hi, All
Planning to buy a KJ petrol, to go with my Grand Cherokee WJ V8. Are they the same motor (minus 2 cylinders for the KJ??). Cams driven by chains?
Thanks for sharing wisdom
Regards

Well if you were talking about the CRD engines then you'd be pretty close to the mark with that assumption.

G'day Ray,
Yes, the petrol 4.7Lt V8 and 3.7Lt V6 are essentially the same engine minus 2 cylinders. Not sure what glend is on about with his comment seeing as though the CRD engines in the WJ and KJ are of a different configuration and made by different manufacturers?
Anyway, I bought a 2007 KJ Sport 2.8 CRD for my wife a few months back to go with my V8 WJ and it's a great little car. Had some issues when I bought it and have also been experiencing relatively high fuel consumption, but I'm starting to address things now I have some time to spend on it.
Any reason you're going for the petrol over the CRD?
Cheers,
Hanna

No reason apart from it was a good buy I thought. Now I have purchased and been for a few runs in it, I am most impo0ressed!! I am impressed with the far better road holding than the WJ!!!! How do I now get the WJ toi the same standard??

If you buy the 3.7lt V6 KJ expect it to use more fuel than your 4.7lt V8 WJ, its the biggest complaint owners comment on.
Mine is a 2007 3.7lt V6, apart from its ability to consume fuel its done 180,000km's and I have replaced the radiator, fan resistor, the rear wiper motor has failed.
regular maintenance being the key to success.......
Avoid buying either the 3.7lt petrol or the 2.5/2.8lt diesel if there are no or sketchy service records. I repair KJs weekly that have suffered poor maintenance and the repair bills can be extensive.
Regards
Daz
