I am after some advice, I'm wanting to upgrade my 2door TJ to a jk unlimited, but unsure of when engine, and help would be appreciated. Eg actual fuel consumption etc..

Fuel consumption is really only part of it. With the difference in consumption vs the upfront cost the return on investment is at least 5 years. Add to that the higher maintenance costs and breakeven is a lot longer again.
However if you are looking at towing regularly or a lot of low range crawling then the consumption figures make a significant difference. Also if towing regularly or towing larger loads the diesel is much better to tow with, especially with the auto transmission.

If you are used to driving petrol cars, you wont like a diesel & viceversa.
Diesels are not for everyone.

Also if planning remote outback travel diesel is easier to get hold of out there.
I struggled with this same question a couple of years ago. For us personally, we went for petrol (bought new). I have never had a diesel vehicle, so they are an unknown to me. After test driving the petrol i was happy with it, and after deciding we wanted a rubicon it settled it for us.
We are happy with our choice, however i do sometimes wonder what the diesel would have been like. I feel i should have at least driven one to compare... and with some mates talking about a simpson trip, i can certainly see advantages in the diesel.
However, i dont yet regret our choice, i just sometimes wonder.
Goid luck with whichever way you end up going

Take the diesel for a test drive, you will make up your Mind pretty much straight away, especially if purchasing new.

Thanks guys, but what average fuel /100km does each do? The plates on new vehicles don't mean much until u speak to a person that actually owns one
Cheers
