Regear with existing locker
Hey guys first post, be gentle, I've had a bit of a Google and can't find an exact answer so here goes. Recently bought an 01 TJ on 31s with a 2.5 inch lift and I'm looking at regearing to 4.56s to run 33's, it already has an ARB locker in the rear and I'm wondering if I can reinstall it once I regear or do I have to sell it and buy a new one to suit. I've seen people talk about "thick" gears and it can work but I'm just unsure and confused.

Its going to depend on what locker is in there .
Work out what ratio is in there now and go from there.
Yes , you can get thick cut gears for a D44 but not for the D30

As already indicated it is down to the gearing you have in the rear differential. 3.92 and higher is the RD116 and you are golden. 3.73 and lower is the RD117 and will require a thick cut ring gear. You do not have this option for the D30 in the front, but you have only specified the rear so imagine that will not be a problem

Awesome exactly what I was looking to find, so it seems that either way I should be okay and determining what gears I'm already running will just determine if I need regular or thick cut basically?

Not sure about this thick or thin bit but when I've done what your thinking it was the other way round, I had no locker and wanted to regear, it depended on the ratio I was to fit that mattered on which locker was fitted at the same time. I remember something up to a certain ratio was 1 model and above that was a different model. Standard ratios can be different in your car too depending if auto or manual. My two cents worth anyway, hope it all works for you.
