    Is Articulation a Mute Point?

Articulation seems to be one of those things a lot of people spend a lot of money on, and go to extreme lenghts to achieve.

Obviously articulation is necessary for vehicle stablility, and probably more importantly for traction, but if lockers are fitted front and rear, is articulation a mute point?

Almost bordering on Heresy there Doc (especially when we've spent so many dollars on our faith!). Even though lockers allows you to keep traction on whatever wheel is on the ground, 4 wheels in contact with mother earth will always provide twice as much traction as 2 (torque is divided evenly across both wheel by the locker). Although there are other factors such as contact point pressure and body stability that mean that it isn't necesssairly that cut and dried, I still feel a whole lot more comfortable with all 4 wheels on the ground.

If you don't keep all four wheels on the ground you lose traction.
      More articulation needed.
If you keep all wheels on the ground and lose traction.
      Traction aids needed.
If all wheels come off the ground and you "high side" the vehicle.
      More ground clearance needed.
If you have articulation (smick suspension), clearance(tyres), traction aids (lockers), and all the accompaning driver skills, then you just get stuck a bit further along the difficult track

      and

you'r bank account is a lot poorer

      And it's fun getting there!!!!!!

        Forgot to mention,

When you run out of articulation, clearance and whatever.....

Money needed for a winch and winch bar (second battery), snatch strap and recovery points, tree guard strap, drag chain, winch extension strap, gloves, rated D shakles, toilet paper (just in case), bow saw, axe, CB radio, thermos with a Jeep logo on it, GPS unit, lotsa maps and a partridge in a pear tree....

        Ain't getting out there fun!

                Seriously, (or read sillyarsely)

                Think....

                Articulation.
                Clearance.
                Traction.
                Driver Skill.
                Recovery.

                in any order......

                then just apply dollars.....and experience.
