Does this mean that there are a variety of tanks for pre 04 models?

Long Ranger tanks make one to fit the 02KJ (which i have installed). It is one tank of 115ltre capacity. This can give me anywhere from 500km -740km range depending on what I'm towing or around town driving, highway driving, Low range work etc.
Apparently the models of 04-07 "under carrage" have been designed differently and lack the room to fit the Long Ranger tank and they don't/won't make one to fit those later models.
However, I have a guy here on the coast who is a licenced Gas conversion mechanic and having worked on mine over the years cannot see a problem using say a 40ltre tank as an aux. to the existing 70 odd ltre stock tank. He just needs to measure up the space available in the 04-07 model to select the appropriate size/shape tank.

I thought it was the fact that they are the same, but the anti pollution canisters and the like were different and wouldnt bolt into the tank?

That is pretty right Stu i.e. the large LR tank can't fit around the geometry of that series(whether it be anti pollution gear or anything else) therefore the possible option of fitting a smaller aux. tank may be a solution.
