Ahh.... didnt see that one (I have to look at Jeep Konection via a stupid external proxy interface as for some stupid reason TPG wont let me look at it directly...)

The factory crush cans are US only, so we dont get them anyways. As for the rest, it looks very nice, but there is no mention of ADR testing or even importer comments to say it meets them.

Since the main compliance is for airbag operation and the Jeep uses accelerometers inside the vehicle, it would prob be just as compliant as any other (rounded edges, loop not angled forward, no sharp forward projections with recovery point underneath the bar etc..). But if it has no stamp of approval, hit someone and your insurance has the ability to wipe their hands and not pay out for either your vehicle OR the other one/person. Damages could be tens of thousands to another vehicle, or into the millions if its a person you mow down.

Looks very nice, but too much of a risk for me unless it comes with the ADR certification.

Besides that - its too bloody expensive!!!

Wow. Looks like I logged off about 15 minutes too early last night. I missed the misbehaviour

Here's the rules for bars in WA:

http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/mediafiles/lic_ci-112b.pdf

I'd imagine that most other states would be similar. A few here are saying the ARB and Mopar bars are compliant and I'd be interested to know if they actually have a compliance placard attached?

I'm a member of a few other four wheel drive forums and I've never heard of anyone being taken to the cleaners for having a non-compliant bar after being involved in an accident. However, that's not to say that it won't happen.

I've got the TJM Bar and it had a sticker attached stating it is ADR compliant etc etc...

I say had because it came off. Oddly enough it also said that it wasn't to be removed..... If that is the case then why didn't they make it a plate and attach with rivets.

Can't comment on the ARB bar, however I would assume it's the same.

Being taken to the cleaners after an accident would possibly only happen if there was a major injury or fatality involved, and the non-compliant bar was found to be a directly contributing factor I'd be guessing.

And you're right - you did miss all the fun last night

There's ADR compliant and ADR approved. Not too hard to assess if any particular bar complies with ADR. Different story with approved though - is there some sort of regulatory body that assesses bars for compliance and actually issues an approval?

I'd be happy enough to fit anything that I'm satisfied complies with ADR. If there's any brou-ha-ha later on it's up to the lawyers to argue about interperetation of the ADR's.

Smartest thing I've read in the last 24hrs, wow visit Sydney for a week and miss all the action.
How about we all agree on this....
If you kill someone and the result ever ended in a coronial inquiry, believe the there will be engineers involved in the investigative process. If you fitted or had fitted a bullbar that was non-compliant, then you can expect a "please explain" during this process. Then it's upto you or your lawyer to prove your bar didnot contribute to the death.
As to what most states believe is ADR compliant, the link above gives a very clear outline as to what is acceptable.
Continued arguing about the what-if's is pointless with too many personal opinions.

Read the outline, make your choice and then roll the dice if you choose some thing outside the guidelines.

Just remember.... Young officers police what they see is the norm... Choose to look very different and you will attract attention. Some may be good, but some may end in a defect whether the officer is right or wrong....

Now let's play nice and be civil whether agree or disagree!
All the best
Matt

With the ARB bar, the only place I can see where an tow hook could be attached in such a way that the tow line would not rub on something would be on the vertical member which attaches the front cross-member, because that is low enough to be under the lower edge of the bar... and a decent snatch there is going to apply a huge amount of leverage on welds which are not reinforced for that purpose, and I bet most front bash plates attach in that area anyway...
