I was very disappointed in how the new grand performed offroad compared to others that are on the market. When I was on the last 4WDOTY the v6 grand really struggled up a modest hill which all the others did easily, especially the challenger. On the open road it did very well but when it came to real 4wding, I felt it was quite soft compared to my current WG. It needs a better approach angle and is crying out for the ability to fit bigger tyres to start with.
As a tarmac tourer with modest 4wding in mind it would be great.
I think the days off old style 4wd's are long gone. But, and here is the but. People have a lot more more to choose from. If you want a serious off road 4wd you but a Wrangler, I think Jeep have got the knew Grand spot on for its intended purpose. I just hope the reliability has improved, you would question that going from Germans to Italians but I think Fiat has thrown more money at Jeep and have tweaked the basic design and it looks like they had some pride putting this new Grand together. I think I'll wait a year and follow the forums before I decide on my next rig. I bought the first year WH and every week it was in the dealers.
