Hi Folks
I fitted a Provent to my 07 WH CRD about 18 months ago - I did not upgrade to the new turbo tube as I thought the Provent would catch all the oil from the CCV. The Provent has caught a fair amount of oil over the 18 months & I have emptied the oily dregs from the drain bottle a couple of times. I was happy the Provent was doing its job.
Following the renewed discussion on overseas Jeep forums re the merits of fitting a Provent or just venting to the atmosphere, I decided to check the CRD turbo inlet etc for oil.
I was very surprised (shocked) to find some oil in the turbo inlet pipe, with some oil having escaped via the original (orange) turbo seal onto the top of the swirl motor below. (Not alot of oil but I had expected zip).
My instant reaction was to plug the CCV inlet to the turbo tube and vent the Provent outlet to the atmosphere. This is now non-compliant (and smelly) but at least I can be certain no oil will be going into that turbo or leak out below.
I am now in a quandry as to what do - I have ordered the replacement turbo tube & seal from the US ( local dealer wanted $285 for a US$65 part ?? - all up cost ex US was ~A$120). The new tube will at least provide a good seal but the big question is should I reconnect the Provent ??
Also I would be interested if anyone else with a Provent has experienced similar issues to me.
Kind Regards GW
