Default 'Drag' whilst rolling

Hey guys, one thing that ive noticed since i got my car (2005 WH CRD) is that when i am coming to lights, stop sign or any reason to stop is that when i take my foot off the accelerater and DONT apply the brakes it seems to still slow down and has a 'dragging' feeling to it. It is unlike any other car i have driven as it does slow down consideribly and is quite frustrating, just wondering if this is a Jeep CRD thing or any ideas??

Thanks.

Have you ever had a diesel before? Diesel's generally have double the compression of a petrol, which means that engine breaking is quite high.

Also, try and keep an eye (or ear) on what gear it is in when slowing down. Sometimes it can change down, or maybe hold a lower gear than top if you were in say 3rd or 4th before slowing down.

To check anything dragging I would jack up each corner and spin the wheel to see if its sticking. I agree though that is probably just the higher compression of the CRD, but I would definately be checking for dragging brakes just in case. You can also put your hand on the centre of the wheel after a trip to see if the wheel centre is hot. If one is hot compared to the others the brake is dragging on that wheel.

What were you driving prior to the WH? It's probably just the QDII doing it's thing combined with the CRD engine braking. If you're used to more common auto transmissions you will notice a big difference as the QDII works more like an auto shifting manual than a traditional auto so you get the full engine braking.

This is most noticeable when accelerating. When you push the pedal down in the wife's auto diesel Navara for example, the engine revs jump immediately then the car catches up later. In the Jeep there is no slip except when you're first getting under way, the revs are tied to the speed.

Also slip it into neutral once and see if it rolls further, If so just engine braking.
