There are literally thousands of "how to" videos on Youtube that r really good for those that want to see how easy it is to be a DIYer when it comes to JK maintenance.
I spoke to them about that and the service manager rattled all the details as per the service book. So can only go by what they have told me.
If the standard service cost was $820 just for an oil and filter change well I wouldn't be going there that is certain.
The $820 does not include changing front and rear diff fluids as that was done at the 18mth/36000km service as per the log book so its not done at the 24mth/48000km service.
The 18mth/36000km as per the book was $360.00.
Not sure how good or bad that was but tghat also included the diff fluids to be changed.
But like you said they will look at the history of the vehicle.
My Rubicon had the 2yr/48k service last week from Jeep Dealer at cost of $790. It is interesting to see the price difference especially compared to the diesels.

Yeah but why it is under warranty this is not an option if you wish to retain that warranty

You always get people who say, You could have been working and paid them to do it! time is money blah blah......
I did it because Ive never done a JK before, and I actually enjoyed it. And it is done and I know how it all works.
Sure i could be wheeling, boating, diving blah blah, or since i do all that all the time I thought Id enjoy doing a full service.
To each their own but dont be afraid to have a go. Plenty of help on the web.
PS I am out of warranty so no issues there.
Just found out my JK is in 181 current issue of 4wd Action.
These prices are horrendous. I pay a local mechanic about $320 for a oil and filter change and about $550 for a service where the diff oils are changed as well.
I know they changed the diff oil because I came early and they had the car on the hoist still bleeding the diffs and had to wait until they finished.
I've never had my car serviced at the dealer, why would you want to? Most of them are disreputable.

Doing the diffs is nothing, buggar all oil and stuff all time! My 50000km service was full synthetic engine oil, oil filter and air filter, plus transmission flush and new mopar atf4 fluid, transmission filters and brake fluid flush. While you can flush the brake lines you cannot flush the modulator without the dealer scantool.
So while I could have done the service blindfolded the cost was nothing compared to the incovenience of trans flush without hoist and half a job bleeding brakes alone??
If you enjoy doing it, all the best to you, had enough of being and grease monkey and don't see it as a fun day out anymore, rathet spend my time improving or building up my rig haha!
$1125 of pretax dollars out of my lease plan well spent in my opinion!!
All the best!!

yep, I cancelled on the dealer and went with my regular mechanic who said he'd do the service without the diff fluid (as i've only done 23000 kms) for about $300
I can't believe what the dealer was trying to charge me for a routine service on a the jeep. l feel dirty.

Macca you make a few good points here. It seems like the answer is a combination of using the dealer and a local mechanic i.e. ask the dealer to do ONLY what can't be done elsewhere because of the scantool and then take the car to the local mechanic to do everything else.
It might sounds inconvenient but $1300 disappearing from my already dimunutive bank account is inconvenient too.

We are on the same wavelength. I've been toying with the idea of buying the filters and oil for the mechanic like what some people do and cutting costs further.
i.e. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayIS...DER:SIMPLEITEM
The 5w30 ESP is about 85 bux for 10 litres?
then the mechanic can only charge you labour.

No probs i do understand the cost isn't "insignificant" by any means, just value when you add it all up, but still $1k is a heap of dough! I have heard of people doing as you suggest even at a dealership. You compete most of the spanner work of the service and pay a small fee to get the dealership to run the scan tool and check your work before signing the logbook off to preserve warranty. Can't remember who posted about doing this but was a forumite here.
Matt
Ps this is a handy info source for price matching... http://www.fixedpricecarservice.com.au/
Dont go dealer, They r thieves..... I recently did major service on my JK 3.8 including Engine oil Nulon Fully Synthetic 5W30, Mopar oil filter, Genuine Mopar ATF+4 transmission oil and Mopar transmission filter, Mopar ATF+4 for transfer case and all up it cost around $300 in parts and $200 for a mechanic to do all that in front of my eyes. If I did the diffs ir would have cost me another $70 including labor. (I did the diffs myself about 6 months ago so didnt bother) And I have 4 ltrs of oil left over....
10 Ltr Nulon Fully Synthetic 5W30 = $99 (Used only 6 ltrs)
Mopar Oil Filter = $22
2 Gallon Mopar ATF+4 (6 Quarts for transmission + 2 Quarts for transfer case) = $114
Mopar transmission filter = $65 (Approx)

If its under warranty go to your local mechanic and run through with them what it needs and make sure you supply the bits. Once they stamp the book the warranty is safe.
Then take it to the dealer and get them to do the warranty work that needs to be done
If its out of warranty then take it to your local mechanic and run through with them what it needs and make sure you supply the bits. Once they stamp the book you have a your record for the car when its put on the market.
Or do it yourself and pray that nothing goes wrong and the warranty is covered.
Lease cars need warranty or you are screwed. If you can afford to screw up your warranty then good luck to you, I hope it doesn't cost you your Jeep like it has to some.
I have one year left on mine, I know what I want to do to it once its finished and I know its a proven package.
Got the Jeep back yesterday, $292.50 for the 24000 km service from my mechanic. I forgot the book so he didn't stamp it but I will get him to do that when I take it back for the 48000 km one.
I asked him to tighten my handbrake as it sometimes doesnt hold up too well (takes a few varieties of lift to hold it on a hill) but he called me saying that it wasn't an easy job and he'd have to go into the dash or something.
