hey i thought i would try and get the boat part of this forum moving so here goes.
So i got bored just befor christmas and had some spare time on my hands and wanted something to do so the project began. I ended up buying a 16ft hamilton jet boat for $500 in need of a lot of work didn't really know how much untill a few weeks back well this is what i ended up buying.
well as you can see by what i have brought a big job.my plan was to strip it all back down and see how much damage there is. This actually surprised me not as much as i thought so the hard work began many long weekends and getting my customers out to give me a hand in return for grog (yea i run a pub). The previous owner had got rid of the jet motor and had tried to make it an outboard boat and failed what he had done was falling apart so i decided on a major upgrade and went with a well outboard and started strengthening up and giving it a good bit of fibreglass and retaining bolts what go half way up the boat to keep it nice and secure.
i decided to go for a decked inside of the boat and some hopefully more camouflaged boat paint what i am still working on now. For safety sake i decided to stay camouflaged up top and white below as with my boat skills (none never piloted a boat before) it will more than likely flip. Thats the only time i would like to be seen but not until then.
Motor wise i am running a chrysler force 85hp outboard motor only been tested once by me and seems to run fairly smooth i just need to replace the water impeller in it.
The trailer i will need to do a complete refit on as has never been registered no lights or anything. looks like it is made from old railway tracks so ways a fair bit. I will be replacing the axle to a 45mm square axle and putting trailer brakes put on so the towing weight i can get to 2 ton and no i have plenty of room to play with as i know the boat will way a lot less than this this will be next week's job hopefully if everything permits.
you have definitely got that right seems to be another thousand every couple of weeks on those 2. But i am glad i run a pub shit money but lots of cheap labour beer in return for work but they all say no to the fun job of painting LOL
sweei001 you keep mentioning that you run a pub…….i had a quick look, Quorn is 17 hours from my place, so I might not offer to pop in and help you with the boat.
All the best for the referb,
cheers
Dave

Fun ain't it? Just finished a 12 month Hartley 18 resto in January. was only supposed to be out of the water for a month! That put a hold on the CJ work. But I'll get back into that as soon as I finish the hobie 14 refurb I just started. I'm Hopeless. Love boats.[and my jeep]. Will post some pics when I get a chance.
