I have a 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo Diesel. I'm most impressed with it so far. Its pretty stock standard. This is my first diesel motor car and I have to admit that I'm pretty much a novice technically to diesel engines.
Anyway, I've recently been told about the benefits of implementing a water trap filter to the fuel line to eliminate water contamination from dirty fuel.
Has anyone implemented such a thing to their WK2 GC?
Is it worth it, or have fuels improved so much that it is no longer necessary?
I'm not sure of the water trap mod but I'll tell ya that the fuels haven't improved, at least at some stations. My mate recently had an issue with his '10 diesel Navara, would hardly run. He hardly used up the tank and filled new fuel, it was then alright. So yeah, if the Jeeps don't already come with water trap (I'm surprised they wouldn't, when my old Toyota does), I'd definitely be installing one.
The Wk2 CRD's have a water trap integrated into the fuel filter housing that is located under the vehicle.
Although I haven't yet heard of an additional trap being fitted to this model Jeep, likely it is a good idea given the potential damage water can do to a Common Rail diesel.
