I can add some value to your question. Having owned jks over the years and driving them daily and now driving a tj whilst my Jk is further modded, the questions you need to answer are:
- Are you modifying it and how far?
- Do you plan on staying legal?

Modifying a JK is easier than a Tj. To put 3" on a Jk is pretty straight forward, to do it properly on a tj will cost you big bucks.
Ditto if your keeping it stock. A stock JK will beat a stock TJ.
But the 4.0 is a great motor and better than the 3.8, it has far more useable torque.

If you want to stay legal, the JK is definitely the way to go. 33" tyres and some lift will destroy a 31" lifted TJ for example.

Food for thought.

Why wait for the JKU, just go there straight away, lets face it as soon as you get any jeep the mod list will begin so why waste the three years of mods before starting again.

I did a lot of research before getting a 2012 JKU and have then proceeded to spend another 15k on mods so far! If I knew what I know now I would have brought one that was a few years old saving myself 20k and using that plus the 15k spent replacing brand new standard equipment to build exactly what I wanted. Lets face it a good condition second hand JKU and 35k builds you a lot of car.

If you know you eventually want a JKU get it now, you won't be disappointed and you will be modding the car you really wanted from the start.

Default Jku

Thanks all for your input.

I was looking at replacing the KJ, main reason is that im just over the 120k mark with distance (it's the 3.7 not the diesel) and I did not want to start spending $$$ on mods if the higher km travelled will start to cause problem over the next 3 years or so (puting me around the 175,000km mark).
I think i will just look for a JKU instead of the 2 door. The only problem with the JKU is I was only looking to sell my KJ plus add another 10 or 12k to buy my next car.....not many JKU's for 25 to 28K around.
