New Homemade Winch Plate
After seeing Steve F's efforts with his bumper/tyre carrier, I thought I would have a go at a new winch plate, and yes Wooders I took your advice and went overkill in terms of strength!
The plate started out life as a section of C chanel and one side was cut off and a lot of cutting and shaping and whalla, there it is. The plate is bloody thick and heavy, but a bit of extra weight on the front of the short wheelbase CJ7 won't hurt. The sides are chanel (also thick) and all bolts are grade 8, starting off with a 3/4 bolt in the original hole in the front of the chassis.
I figure all up it has cost me about $150, mind you that does not include the new drill press I bought to drill all the holes, but the new drill press was overdue after a few recent 'incidents" trying to drill with the hand drill.
