Thumbs up Finaly fixed

WH & XH CRD
Trouble starting your CRD, cranks over but won’t start & when it does there is a lot of smoke from un-burnt fuel?
Check engine light NOT on?
I chased this fault without an OBDII code reader and it cost me more in the long run.
I replaced All glow plugs & the crank angle sensor with no luck

It was a U0106 fault code “Lost communication with glow plug control module”

Simple check with a ELM327 WIFI OBDII adapter and your Android or iPhone with an app like Rev or Torque

Original Part Number “642-900-28-00”

Replacement Part Number “642-900-58-01”

available from http://www.factorymoparparts.com/ I searched and ordered the original part number & received the replacement part number.

If I could offer you one piece of advice it is Buy a OBDII Reader!!!
It will save you money (& time) in the long run.

Before you relpace anything on a modern car read the codes (DTC). Buy a cheap reader it will save you money on the first fault. Otherwise pay a dealer to use the scarscan tool ( which will do heaps more that a generic tool) to get the info.

My 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD has not started first crank for some time but of late it was evident there was a problem. The scan tool showed fault code P0670,P1648 and P0676 .I believe P0676 fault code is number 6 cylinder glow plug but P0670 and P1648 on different forums both say they are the Glow plug control module. Would anyone have a definitive link to fault codes for the CRD as I haven't been able to find one with both of these codes?

The fault codes you have there are generic, an industry standard (I think)

http://www.autoobd-ii.com/download/OBD2-DTC-EN.pdf

P0670 Glow Plug Control Module Control Circuit / Open
P0676 Cylinder 6 Glow Plug Circuit / Open
P1648 Data Bus Powertrain Malfunction (no idea what this is sorry, may be a code caused by Glow Plug Control Module Control Circuit being open)

Thanks Clarky,
Just ordered a GPCM from the US for $188 delivered as per the video. I thought I'd give the local Jeep dealer a chance........$607,why did I bother.
A new set of NGK glow plugs from Supercheap are $117. Why go overseas for a few dollars but $419 that's a different matter.
