As for bore size I have no idea, the body is larger though if that means anything.
As for the lifted ones just watch the compressed length. ....

I ran a set OME shocks from ARB purchased new on my last 98 XJ Sport
I found them to be a little harsh on road, but I was running Maxis 235/75/15 MT's but I felt very confident with them on road and preformed very well off road and on corrugations... It had king springs installed by previous owner, I found it was still running the OEM shocks it was built with and was sloppy when cornering...
Cheers

The stock Sport (pre-update) shocks are second best in my testing but limited wheel travel.....

you not the first person ive heard say this about the pro comps on an xj , Jungle j ,

I have issues with front shocks overheating from my over enthusiastic driving on rough roads.

work backwards.
remove current shocks - flex car forwards and backwards and each side - measure, remove a little for some margin of error and to keep your springs captive - scour catalogues trying to find that magic combo of dampening and length.

If you're running stock arms (and no drop boxes) then keeping the springs captive will never be an issue....
Also as you only have 230mm of travel when stock arms are retained any bumpstop extension is subtracted off that 230mm...

Yours must have been very different to the 5 full kits I have tried in mine on similar sized tyres, I found all of them skatey on bumpy roads both dirt and tar.
I recently got to drive a stock 97 pre-update that I have and it is still running the original shocks and springs and the ride was heavenly smooth, controlled and gave no issues on corners but the OME's could take a corner quicker I'll give them that much....
What I did with mine was after my wife complained about the skating on a bend was to use the same piece of potholed road and tried different dampers till it stopped skating, using the shocks I had at the time, OME, OEM and OEM Jk's the worst to best was immediately obvious, OME, OEM and OEM JK with the biggest difference being between the OME and the OEM units and I was actually wanting to use the OME's as I have the OME springs and they have longer travel but it wasn't to be....

Interesting. I'm not up to the playing with suspension yet, still getting the comfort and 15yr old car bugs out.
The stock arms bind quite early? or is it other parts clash.

Just for clarification, 30mm over stock or sport bumpstops JJ? The sports are a bit longer aren't they?
