Replacing WH key?

Howdy,

My plastic fob 'key' is falling apart and the patch-up jobs are working less and less.

I rang a dealer and once I picked myself up off the floor, I got him to repeat the cost of a replacement...$595.

Any other options out there? $600 for a bit of cheap plastic and a battery is just too hard to swallow.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that assuming your internals/electronics are ok, then you can use something like the following from 'justforjeeps'.

I believe you can transfer your internals into the new key head. But will still have to get the key component cut.

I couldn't find the post after a quick search. We'll have to wait for someone who knows for sure, to confirm or deny.

Mines the keyless one, but finding a body would do it for me, it's just the case is cracking open/won't glue shut anymore.

EDIT. Done - New case is $20 on Ebay, here in a week.
