I have decided not to replace the thermostat at this stage, however I am going to try an experiment next time I tow in extreme temperatures. That is, to wait until the temperature is a couple of notches over 1/2, then pull over and take the front bash plate off. I think that this may be restricting a fair amount of air flow.

Do others that experience the temperature rise have front bash plates????

Cheers, Craig
In case you didn't read my comments in the 'Towing Heavy Loads with WH Grand' thread.
I just towed my new 3.2 ton boat back from Sydney. The temperatures rose to 4 notches over half. Took the front bash plate off and it made no difference.

Does anyone have any more suggestions on how to keep the temperatures down??
I believe that there is thicker aftermarket radiator available.

Cheers, Craig

Default Hi Temps WH

Hi Mate,
I tow a 3 ton caravan and first trip up the Toowomba Range my obd2 went to 110 deg. Luckily the boiling point is much higher, however I wanted to be able to controll the temp better so spent a bit of time on the cooling system. The hydraulic fan spool valve receives a signal from the ecm earthing the trigger wire to increase the value. I fed a wire from the trigger to a dash switch and then to earth which allows me to ramp up the fan to max before the engine gets too hot. Last time up the Range temps stayed at 90 deg. I rarely need to use the switch but its good to have as a backup.

Hey thanks Capt Jim. I might try that.
I have booked the Jeep in next week to have the radiator and cooling system flushed in any case.

Cheers, Craig

Hi all, had my radiator completely replaced with a newy today. Had it booked into a reputable local radiator place this morning. Got the phone call to tell me that it was that badly blocked that they couldn't do much with it.
They claim that I would have only been getting about 50% air flow. I'm tipping that my high temperature problems may now be solved.
Yet to hook up the big fiberglass floating vessel to find out whether the temp still rises.
Will keep you posted.........

Cheers, Craig
