I own a jeep tj wrangler 2003 4.0L sport
Everything with the motor is stock standard and I'm thinking of getting a exhaust change
What effect would this have on my motor and would I need a chip/spoofing device for my ECU (engine control unit) or is it all cool?

You'll need to retain the Cat, or use an aftermarket hi-flow Cat. Any "old school" engine like that is going to respond well to headers and a "sports" type exhaust.
Be sure not to remove too much backpressure, as you'll lose low end torque.
ECU should be able to adjust for minor downstream changes like this.
