LOL, I know a guy on his 2nd Runva winch. The first turned on by itself and decided it wanted to wind itself and the front bar in.

Initially got told it was due to water crossings and wouldn't be covered.

Never knew fresh water could short out an electrical circuit so quickly as salt water can...

You get what you pay for in the end.

Thats right with water but what about dust, you need a minimum IP67 to have a winch protected from the elements, IP68 or 69 would be better but dont think any manufacturer that was serious would rate their winches higher than IP67
here is a link to IP ratings handy to Know when buying stuff

Default Interesting...

As a follow up, they didn't actually TEST any of the winches for water, mud, snow, dust or dirt ingress, they only went of what the supplier says.

I have a really nice bridge for sale in Sydney, tolls are very affordable and is used by 100,000 vehicles a day.

If you're interested in purchasing this bridge contact the seller at www.yourefarkingjoking.sucked.in

And I do own a winch. It's a Warn XD9000 that I bought 2nd hand from a 4WD centre in Sydney Rd Campbellfield.

It came with a brand new cable and controller. They couldn't get it working and said it needed new "gaskets". After correctly wiring it to the solenoid box it's been running perfectly for over 2 years.

Total cost, $100!

Thats a good read, something to look at before buying the next winch

I bought the Ironman winch based on the breather tube.
The breather l have installed up under the bonnet near the air filter box.
Figure if it is under water, it is easier for it to breath in through the filter than the gaskets and seals or whatever else.
Has been on for about 2 1/2 years now and been submerged several times.
Doesn't seem to have suffered any.

.
Apart from installing an isolation switch (I know I'm taking a big risk not having one) is there an IP67 solenoid I can buy? Brand? to help prevent this sort of thing?
