Nice. I think that would be the way to go. If you're going to do 33s id be looking to a tyre carrier/bumper. If you take your rig off road and know your going to scratch it just get a second hand one. They only look new for a month or so any way.

I had that happen to mine... after I backed into a tree I couldn't see through the back window, (it was at a 45 degree angle... ) I'd bet the same sort of thing happened to yours at some time. I've been running 285 on mine for 6 years & other than that, it hasn't had a problem.

Also 265/70 is a bit wider but also slightly smaller diameter, so not significantly heavier than OEM size, (mine came with 255/75). You'd probably have bigger weight variation within the OEM size depending on what brand you bought.

Having said that, I'd get the Terraflex if I had the money to throw at it,. Since I didn't, I got a nice cheap 2nd had OEM from someone who did!

The stock diecast carrier is surprising robust, unlike the door its attached to.

I carry a LARGE HEAVY spare on one with a TF hinge casting and apart from a mate running into the back of me and cracking it, have never had any issues. And under those circumstances I'd rather break the carrier than damage the door so its IMHO a good combination.

Its done lots of outback roads etc and all good.

If I wanted aftermarket, I'd now buy one of the Smitty built hinge castings ( they actually come with the carrier bracket as well unlike the TF ) and just use the lot... ironic its cheaper and complete.

Yeah I don't recall hitting anything hard [emoji51] but I do drive my jeep like it should [emoji57] so maybe I was a bit rough.

Ended up getting a second hand (brand new) carrier from midnightMods.

I didn't hit the tree hard, but as it was at 45 degrees, it only got the bottom half of the tyre... Or maybe someone else backed/drove into it while you were parked somewhere? Had that happen to me too! (But not in the Jeep.)

Are the two plastic anti vibration isolators still fitted on either side of the carrier mount?

Yeah both still intact. One of the nuts was loose, (the side that was broken off) I wonder if the nut was loose and cause the wheel to move around and do the damage?
