heres my options

after some reading, D35 are pretty despised, and apparently my problem is not uncommon.

1) obtain for for $0 a complete D35 rear end ex '95, probably would need to rebuild,

2) replace with Chrysler 8.25

3) replace with Ford Explorer 8.8?

I dont know much at all about the last 2, would prefer disc brakes, most easy bolt in/lowest bucks etc

all opinions most welcome

8.25 would be drums and harder to get as they are a direct bolt in and geared correctly

8.8 would need brackets welded and probably a regear but would run discs

Other option is a TJ D44. Needs brackets and gears but stronger than the D35 and tgr same width. Easier to find than a 8.25.

If you are pretty much stock chuck in the lowest mileage D35 you can find as all the other options will be substantially more cost wise.

Cheers
Steve

thx for the sound advice

plan of action atm to acquire the free spare D35 with springs

as per Gojeep, cut a main leaf, and add to my pack, my saggy rear end shits me to tears, looks stoopid. (if needed can later fit used front Grand springs apparently)

will take the drums to the brake shop to see if they are useable, if not, prob add discs

can take my time, just top up current diff every few months, will read up the manual on a diff OH

had some good International D44s previously. Many years ago, before Internet, advertised a disc braked D60 from a 1ton Inter for a low price, damm that thing was popular, could have sold 50

Use the best brake drums from the two. I would replace the wheel cylinders and re use the best shoes if still OK. Adjust correctly and you should be fine.
While D35's are at the bottom of the pile, they are not too bad if you are not running oversize rubber and don't really abuse it.
