Default Replace Nutsert Rivnut Chassis Skidplate Transfercase mount

Unfortunately some monkey has ripped the nut off the inside on one of my mounting points for the transfer case skidplate bracket, leaving me a 13.4mm threadless 8mm deep sleeve.

I have sourced a 12mm threaded Nutsert from a local fastner supplier, but the flange / head is quite small compared with the oem part.

Still debating whether to remove the existing stripped insert or try tapping what remains to 14mm x1.5 thread, or drill it internally to 15mm and use it as the mounting point for the new insert. I'm lacking the right drill and tap at the moment. For now I can do with getting the bolt back in the hole as a temporary measure. I'm planning to do this properly when I drop the skidplate.

I watched a few youtube videos on replacing the nut, its managable if you have the part!

Ideall I'd do it with the OEM part, but cant seem to find a supplier.

I did get this link from the US that ships to Aus, but I'm a bit up against the clock. And at equiv $91 I'd be feeling a bit slapped for some bolts and washers.

Anyone sourced the OEM part in Australia?
Got one in the shed you want to sell me...

I left stuffed one in , found a nut that fitted .
Welded it to a piece of annealed brick tie .
Put it thru one of the holes in the chassis.
Tightened up bolt.
Holds well.

Just to follow up on the saga.

Tried to tap the remaining sleeve, it's made of an alloy of cheese. You could cut a nice thread in it, but you wouldn't be able to tighten it. In any case as I started to apply some torque the whole thing was just spinning in the frame.

I cut it out with an angle grinder and popped the rest into the chassis rail.

The hole in the chassis is 15.8mm and the material of the frame is 3.4mm thick.

My Rivnut pressed into the hole nicely, and I compressed it with a nut and bolt. This is OK to replace one, but I wouldn't want to do all six manually.

Anyway, all good, the plate bolted up fine and pulled down OK.

It can be done without special tools!
