OK - received a letter from FCA today in response to my Customer Care query.
Content states….
"Thank you etc……...
You may be aware that following feedback from Jeep enthusiasts, FCA applied to have the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 reclassified as an MC vehicle.
With the application having now been granted, Jeep Grand Cherokees originally compliance plated as
MA - Passenger Vehicles will be recognised as
MC - Off Road Vehicles for the purposes of modifications in accordance with applicable State or Territory vehicle standards legislation.
Under this agreement, all Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4s that were compliance plated between February 2015 and 30 March 2017 will be recognised automatically as MC equivalent in all States and Territories except South Australia. MA plated Jeep Grand Cherokees in South Australia will need to obtain individual recognition to be reclassified as
MC equivalent.
FCA notes that your vehicle was first registered during this period and although it is compliance pated as MA, is therefore now recognised as
MC equivalent and may be modified accordingly.
Regarding allowable modifications for your vehicle, FCA recommends that you follow the advice in the service and warranty handbook and relevant information from your local vehicle standards regulator.
We trust etc………..any questions please contact 1300 133 079"
Clear enough, all those 4x4s from that period will be automatically recognised now as MC equivalent - except those in SA who will have to do their own homework. How ridiculous that we have these differences between States!!
Doesn't look like owners will need a letter unless they want confirmation in hand.
Anyway - done and dusted for me. Hope this clarifies it for all.
